LET US PRAY:   February 11 is World Day of the Sick, an observation introduced by Pope John Paul II (now, St. John Paul II) as a way for believers to offer prayers for those suffering from illnesses.

God of all goodness, look with mercy on all who suffer any kind of infirmity, sickness or injury, that they may be comforted. Let your hand of healing and protection be upon them. When they are fearful, ease their fear and anxieties. When they are afraid, give them strength and courage. When they feel alone, send them someone to listen and to care. When they are confused, provide reassurance and direction. When they are in pain, ease their suffering. When they despair, give them hope. May they experience your healing presence in the comfort of a caregiver’s calm gaze and tender touch. We ask this in your holy name. Amen.

LET US PRAY:    St. Blaise – February 3rd

O Blessed St Blaise, you received from God the power to protect men from throat diseases and other maladies. Take away the illness that afflicts me, keep my throat healthy and perfect so that I can talk correctly and be able to proclaim and sing praises to God.

I promise you, St Blaise, that the words coming from my mouth will always speak:
The truth and not lies; justice and not calumnies; goodness and not harshness; comprehension and not intransigence; forgiveness and not condemnation; pardon and not accusation; respect and not disparagement. Conciliation and not intrigue; calmness and not irritation; unselfishness and not egotism; edification and not scandal; enthusiasm and not defeatism; conformity and not complaint; love and not hate; joyfulness and not sadness; faith and not disbelief; hope and not despair.

St Blaise, keep my throat free from illness so that I can praise God, my Creator, and thank you, my protector.
Amen.

LET US PRAY:

“When the Sacred Scriptures are read in the Church, God himself speaks to his people, and Christ, present in his word, proclaims the Gospel” (GIRM, no. 29).

Tracing of the Cross before the Gospel is proclaimed:  “May the Lord be in my mind, on my lips, and in my heart.”  When we make such a gesture at Mass, it is truly a profound prayer, opening ourselves up to the words of Jesus Christ.
