CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD:
Children’s Liturgy of the Word is offered every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month during the 10:30 am Mass. This is a wonderful opportunity for children in PreK-4th grade. It mirrors the worship experience of the larger community in an engaging and interactive style. They will listen to Scripture and engage in discussions about what they have heard at their age level. Children will be called forward before the First Reading and will return to you after the General Intercessions. Our lead catechist is Anna Skinner. She, along with her assistants, have cleared background checks.

GLUTEN FREE? Do you have an intolerance to gluten? If so, our parish offers gluten-free wafers to be consecrated for you. Please see our Sacristan 10 – 15 minutes before Mass and let them know that you need a gluten-free wafer put in the pyx. At Communion, please proceed down the aisle to the priest who will have the pyx in his hand and let him know you need a gluten-free host.

IS THAT YOU, FR. JIM? If you receive emails or texts from Fr. Jim asking for favors, gift cards or gifts or stating something similar to “I am currently busy in a meeting now, no calls so just reply to my email”, please ignore and delete. If an email looks suspicious and you’re not sure, give the office a call.

LET US PRAY:   St. Mary Magdalene – July 22

Saint Mary Magdalene,
woman of many sins, who by conversion
became the beloved of Jesus,
thank you for your witness
that Jesus forgives
through the miracle of love.

You, who already possess eternal happiness
in His glorious presence,
please intercede for me, so that some day
I may share in the same everlasting joy.

Amen.

Saint Mary Magdalen was one of the few who remained with Christ during His agony on the Cross. She visited His tomb with two other women and found it empty. It was to her that our Lord first appeared after His Resurrection. He asked her to announce His Resurrection to the Apostles.

Once we reach our goal in collected donations, we will receive back half of the money collected above the goal for projects around our campus. It is important that everyone follows through with payments on pledges if we are to reach our goal in paid pledges.  If your household has not participated, it’s not too late! Currently, only 173 households (21% of our active households) have participated. We encourage those households who have not participated to prayerfully consider participating in this annual event. Let’s see if we can reach at least 50%! Every gift counts, no matter how small. Pledge cards can be found at the doors of the Church. You can also give online at www.cdow.org; click “Giving” then “Faith and Charity Catholic Appeal”, or simply scan this QR code with your cellphone.

DELAWARE SENATE TO WEIGH PHYSICIAN-ASSISTED SUICIDE BILL
Statement from the Diocese of Wilmington
regarding the passing of HB 140 by the Delaware Senate
Yesterday [June 24], we were disheartened to learn that the Delaware State Senate, in an 11-10 vote, passed HB 140. This bill legalizes suicide in Delaware by drug overdose prescribed by doctors, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners for people who are deemed to be in the last months of life. The Catholic Diocese of Wilmington has consistently opposed assisted suicide and every attempt to legalize it.  We condemn these efforts because of our religious belief that all life is sacred and should be protected from conception to natural death. But all people of good will should recognize that this bill encourages the most vulnerable (e.g., the aged, the dependent, those with disabilities) and those who need our care the most to see themselves as merely a burden for their loved ones and unduly influence a decision to end their life. Often those “deemed” to be in his/her last months of life are suffering from depression or a treatable disease, and this becomes a permanent solution to a temporary problem. In reality, this “solution” is never acceptable; there is no justification to take an innocent life. Furthermore, it is a violation of a central principle in the medical profession that one is called to heal and preserve life and “do no harm” and turns those who should care for society’s health into agents of death.

The bill now goes to Governor John Carney who can veto the bill, sign It into law, or let it become law without his signature.  We ask Delaware Catholics and all people of good will to contact Governor Carney and ask him to stand up for the elderly, sick and disabled, by vetoing this dangerous and immoral legislation.  We ask all Christians and those of other faith traditions to join the Catholic community in prayer for our Governor, that he will not allow Delaware to be the latest state to allow government sanctioned suicide.
