LET US PRAY:
The symbolism of the Advent wreath is quite beautiful. The circle of the wreath, with no beginning or end and made with evergreens, represents eternity and the everlasting life found in Christ.
The four candles represent the four weeks of Advent whose progressive lighting expresses the expectation and hope surrounding the coming of the Messiah. There are different systems of considering the four weeks. For example, Week 1 evokes the patriarchs and the virtue of hope. Week 2 recalls the prophets and peace. Week 3 recalls John the Baptist and joy while Week 4 presents the figure of Mary and the virtue of love.

Week 3: Light the first and second purple candles and the pink candle

Scripture Reflection: “And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.” Luke 2:20

*pause for reflection

Advent Wreath Prayer: Dear Jesus, help us focus on you during this busy season. May we stay aware of the joy you bring into our lives. We want to find you in the everyday moments and come with hearts of gratitude to your manger on Christmas. Amen.

And while they were there, the time came for her to be delivered. MARRIAGE MOMENTS: “Stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come.” (Mt. 24:42) This scripture alludes to end times. We don’t know for sure when we or our beloved will die but try not to end any day with anger against your spouse. Forgive before you sleep.

Week 1. Light the first purple candle.

Scripture Reflection: “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shined.” Isaiah 9:2
*pause for reflection

Dear Jesus, you are the hope in our messy world. This Advent, help us slow down, listen to your voice, and focus on what’s really important. We place our hope in you as we prepare our hearts to celebrate your birth on Christmas. Amen.

MARRIAGE MOMENTS: During this week of Thanksgiving, take a moment to share with each other one thing that makes you thankful for your beloved and your marriage.

PARENTING POINTERS:  The Friday after Thanksgiving is often called “Black Friday” because it starts the frenzy of holiday shopping. It’s especially challenging for kids not to get sucked into Christmas wish lists.  Ask your children one gift they might like for Christmas that doesn’t cost any money.

LET US PRAY:

Lord, Jesus Christ, Our Sovereign King
The beginning and end of all things,
You have made Your Church to be a people
that bears witness to the goodness and beauty of Your kingdom.
By your Holy Spirit, You have united us as one body,
called to live as one family of God.
Fill our hearts with Your grace,
that we would be close to You
by being close to the vulnerable and marginalized.
Give us the patience to share one another’s burdens,
And give us the courage to always be friends of the truth.
May we remain with You always.
Amen.

Please see our Sacristan 10 – 15 minutes before Mass and let them know that you need a gluten-free wafer put in the pyx. At Communion, please proceed down the aisle to the priest who will have the pyx in his hand and let him know you need a gluten-free host.

MARRIAGE MOMENTS: What’s the number one enemy of love? According to relationship coach, Gary Smalley, it’s unresolved anger. Since you can’t guarantee you’ll never feel angry, it’s best to work on the other end – resolving it constructively and lovingly. What works for you?

PARENTING POINTERS: “There will be powerful earthquakes, famines, and plagues from place to place.” (Luke 21:11) Sometimes scripture sounds like it is being written for our times. It can be scary for kids. One antidote is to let your children see you acting to relieve the suffering of others. Include them when possible.

LET US PRAY:

Dear Lord,
Today we honor our veterans, living and deceased, worthy men and women who gave their best when they were called upon to serve and protect our country.
We pray that you will bless them for their unselfish service in the continual struggle to preserve our freedoms, our safety, and our country’s heritage, for all of us.
Bless them abundantly for the hardships they faced, for the sacrifices they made for their many different contributions to America’s victories over tyranny and oppression.
We respect them, we thank them, we honor them, we are proud of them. We pray that you will watch over these special people and bless them with peace and happiness.
For those who bravely gave their lives, grant them eternal rest.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.                                                                                                                                                                                           The Leo House, adapted
