MARRIAGE MOMENTS: That the dead will rise…for to God all are alive.” (Luke 20: 38) Thinking of your own or your beloved’s death can be scary and depressing – but nobody gets out of this life alive! Take a sacred moment to share with each other your fears and hopes for your own deaths.

PARENTING POINTERS: November is Adoption month. Have you ever considered adopting or becoming a foster parent? This may not be your call but you might still mentor a child who needs a little more attention. Remember, Jesus was a foster child.

LET US PRAY:  A Prayer Before an Election

Lord God, as the election approaches,
we seek to better understand the issues and concerns that confront our city/state/country,
and how the Gospel compels us to respond as faithful citizens in our community.

We ask for eyes that are free from blindness
so that we might see each other as brothers and sisters,
one and equal in dignity,
especially those who are victims of abuse and violence, deceit and poverty.

We ask for ears that will hear the cries of children unborn and those abandoned,
Men and women oppressed because of race or creed, religion or gender.

We ask for minds and hearts that are open to hearing the voice of leaders who will bring us closer to your Kingdom.

We pray for discernment so that we may choose leaders who hear your Word,
live your love, and keep in the ways of your truth
as they follow in the steps of Jesus and his Apostles
and guide us to your Kingdom of justice and peace.

We ask this in the name of your Son Jesus Christ and through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

St. Dennis – Monday, October 31st, 5 pm

ALL SOULS’ DAY MASS: There will be a special All Souls’ Day Mass here at St. Polycarp on Wednesday, November 2nd, at 7 pm. Parishioners from both parishes, St. Polycarp and St. Dennis, whether you have lost a loved one or not, are invited to attend. Letters have been sent out to those parishioners who have lost a loved one and had funerals at either parish in the past year. A table will be set up in the center aisle with a white cloth on it. Window boxes filled with sand will be placed on the cloth in the form of a cross. After the homily, the names of those who have died in the past year and had funerals at either parish will be called out. Anyone else present who has lost a loved one at any time, will then be invited to come forward and pick up a candle and light it from the Paschal Candle. Their candles will then be placed in the window boxes containing the sand and stay lit through the end of Mass. Holy cards will then be handed out.  (There is a regular daily morning Mass at 8:30 am on November 2nd.)

RESPECT LIFE: The next meeting will be on Tuesday, November 1st, at 6 pm in Room 7.  Please join us!  If you are planning to attend the 7 pm Mass for All Saints Day, think about joining us before Mass to see what we have planned. All people and ideas are most welcome!

IS THAT YOU, FR. JIM? If you receive emails from Fr. Jim asking for favors or gifts or stating something similar to “I am currently busy in a meeting now, no calls so just reply to my email.”, please ignore and delete. If an email looks suspicious and you’re not sure, give the office a call. This applies to texts from Fr. Jim as well. One of our parishioners recently received a similarly worded text from “Fr. Jim” (of course it wasn’t Fr. Jim). Fortunately the person contacted the staff and then blocked the text.

MARRIAGE MOMENTS:  October 24 is “Take Back Your Time Day.” It’s about work/life balance and marriages can use this as much as workaholics.  Talk with your beloved about how you use your “free” time.  Do something fun together today.

PARENTING POINTERS:  October 24 is United Nations Day.  These days it may feel like our world is more divided politically than united.  Why not challenge your family to learn about one unfamiliar nation.  What do we share in common and how are we different from the people in the nation you chose?

LET US PRAY: The Catholic Campaign for Human Development is the domestic anti-poverty program of the  U.S. Catholic Bishops, working to carry out the mission of Jesus Christ “… to bring good news to the poor…release to captives…sight to the blind, and let the oppressed go free.” (Luke  4:18)

Prayer to Our Lady of Guadalupe for Justice
Most merciful mother, you came to tell
us of your compassion through St. Juan
Diego, whom you called the littlest and
dearest of your sons.
Give your strength and protection to all who live
in poverty today, especially the young, elderly, and vulnerable.
Plead for them to the Father, that they might experience the
Divine Love tangibly in their daily lives, and that
all who work for justice on behalf of the poor might
grow in fortitude and humility. In these ways,
manifest your charity and concern in our lives, that
the weeping of humanity may be heard, and all our
suffering, pain, and misfortune may be filled with
divine comfort and healing. May we always know
the peace of being in the cradle of your arms, and
bring us safely home to your Son, Jesus. Amen.
