MARRIAGE MOMENTS: Sunday, August 14: Some bombs blast property and health. But in marriage, sometimes the “bombs” can be emotinal. Are there any comments you’d like to stop?

PARENTING POINTERS: Share with your child a time you had a success, a failure, and a time that was hard to keep a commitment. I wonder what your child will share.

LET US PRAY:  The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary – August 15. Mass will be celebrated on Sunday, August 14, at 4:00 pm.

Father in heaven,
all creation rightly gives you praise,
for all life and all holiness come from you.
In the plan of your wisdom
she who bore the Christ in her womb
was raised body and soul in glory to be with Him in heaven.
May we follow her example in reflecting your holiness
and join in her hymn of endless love and praise.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Letter from Fr. Jim – Announcement

Dear People of God,

I hope and pray that all is well with you and your loved ones as we continue to enjoy the blessings of Summer!

Just as surely as we evidenced on that first Easter morning, passion, death and resurrection are but one event at St. Polycarp Church. God has provided a new Financial Manager to our parish. After interviews with viable candidates, our search committee has discerned the next member of our Professional Staff.

Laura Pajerowski is no stranger to our parish. She and her husband, Bob, are registered worshippers with our community. Laura has previously served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and Sacristan. She has always been a model of integrity and faith.

Laura has decades of experience with fiscal responsibilities. This will be an asset to our community. We are indeed grateful for her stewardship of the gifts that God has entrusted to her care. Please keep her in your prayers as she prepares to care for our material resources.

With this piece of our ministerial team stable, we will now focus on the Facilities Manager position. Applications should be sent to fr.hreha@saintpolycarp.org. Please continue to pray for our discernment of this important ministry in our parish.

May God continue to bless you and reward your goodness!
Fraternally,

LET US PRAY:

Prayer to St. Lawrence, Deacon and Martyr – Feast Day, August 10

O Generous patron of the Church’s poor, St. Lawrence, pray to the One God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit that all the poor of the Church in need in every corner of the world may feel the effect of the love of their brothers and sisters who seek to help them.

Deliver the Church from the greed and envy of the powerful and protect her rights and property so that she may serve the needy in freedom, giving them good things for soul and body.

May we come some day with all those whom we helped on earth to the bright mansions of heaven where we will enjoy the riches of God’s house and the company of the Savior who lives and reigns forever and ever.

Amen

PARENTING POINTERS: Sunday July 31: Children might have snatches of time when they recognize the value of parental love and commitment, but they still like toys.  Challenge your family to a day without toys or tech stuff and create your own fun.  Can you do it?

LET US PRAY:  The Transfiguration of the Lord – August 6
Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother John, and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no fuller on earth could bleach them.  Mark 9:2-3

Lord, may I see Your glory and the glory that You have bestowed upon my own soul.
May my eyes forever remain fixed on that grace.
May I see You and Your glory especially in difficult times.
Jesus, I trust in You.

Letter from Fr. Jim – Posting for 2 part time staff positions

Dear People of God,

I hope and pray that all is well with you and your loved ones as we enjoy the blessings of summer!

As you are aware, St. Polycarp lost her Business Manager last month. Despite advertising for weeks, no candidates have emerged for this full time position. Thankfully, one of our parishioners knows how to process checks and has been a good steward of the gifts given by God. Yet, this temporary sacrifice only ensures that our bills get paid. It does not enable us to fully manage our fiscal affairs. Further, while our fine staff has been assisting with some of the facilities responsibilities, this too is a non-sustainable long term solution.

Following the recommendations of our Professional Staff and our Finance Council, we now need to consider separating the financial responsibilities from the facilities management. This will create 2 new part time positions on our staff. Separate job descriptions have been developed for a Facilities Manager and a Financial Manager. Both positions would require appropriate skills for the specific duties. Each is envisioned to entail about 20 hours of ministry each week. Accordingly, while some duties for each position require specific times, each will also provide some flexibility of scheduling.

Certainly, this change will entail growth for all of us. Yet the Paschal Mystery of suffering, death, and resurrection is the bedrock of our journey of faith. New life is guaranteed! In this, as in so many things, we must trust in the wisdom of the Holy Spirit guiding the Church.

I ask all to pray for our Parish during this time of transition. Further, I ask all to listen to God’s inspiration for this new phase in our community who have the gifts needed for these positions. If you feel God is calling you, please have the courage to step forward. Accordingly, if you know someone who has the gifts, please ask them to pray about serving St. Polycarp.

Interested applicants should send inquiries to fr.hreha@saintpolycarp.org.

May God continue to bless us as His people and reward our trust in His providential care!
