SECOND COLLECTION THIS WEEKEND: Parish Maintenance.

SUPPORT OUR SQUIRES! The Squire’s “Lock In” begins tonight at 7pm. The Lock In will conclude with the 4pm Mass tomorrow to celebrate and install the new officers for the Columbian year. We are asking for your support by sponsoring the Squire’s in order to raise funds. Funds collected will be split up between St. Polycarp and the State Police K9 Unit. If you missed last week’s collection and would still like to donate, donations may be mailed to church. CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF WILMINGTON – 2022 FAITH AND CHARITY CATHOLIC APPEAL:  As of the last report, June 14th, 86.20% of our goal has been pledged. We are $8280 from our goal.  If you haven’t already done so, please consider supporting this year’s appeal, no matter the amount. Pledge cards can be found in the pews and at the doors of the church. EUCHARISTIC REVIVAL OPENING MASS & PROCESSION: This Sunday, June 19, 2022,  the Diocesan Opening Mass for the Eucharistic Revival will be celebrated at the Cathedral of St. Peter (500 N West Street, Wilmington, DE) by Bishop Koenig followed by a procession with the Holy Eucharist through the streets of Wilmington beginning at 3:00 p.m. All are invited by Bishop Koenig to join the Corpus Christi Mass and Eucharistic Procession for this special day of devotion and prayer in the City of Wilmington. The Mass will be live-streamed  on the Diocesan YouTube  channel  (YouTube.com/DioceseofWilm) at 2pm.

As this marks the beginning of the Diocesan Year of the Eucharistic Revival in the Diocese of Wilmington, all parishes are asked to send at least five representatives to participate in this special Mass and Procession. We would like to have as many parishioners as possible represent St. Polycarp. As of today we have 2 people who have signed up to represent St. Polycarp. THANK YOU!  NOTE WELL, the Procession will be about 1.5 miles in warm weather with stops at St. Patrick and St. Joseph Churches along the way, please plan accordingly.

BUSINESS MANAGER: As most of you know, Lisa Titus, our Business Manager, has discerned that God is calling her to serve His people in a different way. Lisa has been a true blessing to our parish. We are grateful for her stewardship and wish her the best always. Please keep Lisa in your prayers. While Lisa is leaving her position as Business Manger at the end of the month (July 29th will be her last day), Lisa and her husband, Kevin, will remain parishioners here at St. Polycarp.
We trust that God will touch the heart of someone to respond to our need for a Business Manager. Please spread the word, or perhaps it is you who He is calling! Interested candidates should have Business Management, Accounting and Bookkeeping experience with the appropriate educational credentials. Facilities management, or a willingness to learn, is also a necessary component of the position. Above all, the person must be willing to work collaboratively with our team of Professional ministries to build God’s Kingdom here at St. Polycarp. SYNOD CLOSING MASS: All are invited to join Bishop Koenig on June 22 at 6 p.m. at Holy Cross Church in Dover for the closing Mass for the diocesan phase of the Synod on Synodality. Preliminary findings of diocesan wide listening sessions will be included. It will be a special moment of prayer to give thanks to God for this opportunity to better “journey together” as a church and to reflect upon the fruits of the local synodal process, according to a statement from the diocese.

We offer religious education classes for children in Pre-K through Grade 9, Sacramental Preparation for First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation.  We also offer Intermediate Sacramental Prep (ISP) for older children who have not yet received sacraments. 2023 MASS INTENTION BOOK – Opening Soon. It is a beautiful part of our Catholic tradition to have Masses celebrated for the repose of the soul of a departed loved one or for the living intention of an individual. The New 2023 Mass Intention Book will open on Thursday, July 7^th.  You can reserve a Mass or Offering by calling the parish office between the hours of 9 am – 3 pm, or anytime via email at office@saintpolycarp.org.
– The Mass Intention is $10.00
– The Sanctuary Lamp may be lit for an entire week (Sunday through Saturday) either in the Church or Chapel for $10.00
– Bread and Wine Offering for daily Mass is $10.00
– Purgatorial Society Enrollment is $25.00 for Mass Intentions every 1^st Wednesday for one year.
The Maximum number of mass cards and/or offerings is 6 per person since the availability of mass intentions and offerings is limited.

FATHER’S DAY NOVENA: Honor the Fathers, Grandfathers, Uncles, Father-figures and other special men in your life on their special day.  Whether they are living or deceased, the gift of prayer is a beautiful way to show your deep appreciation for their sacrificial love.  The best gift you can give a loved one is the gift of the Mass.  Please use the Father’s Day Mass Remembrance envelopes to inscribe the names you wish to be remembered in the masses offered by our parish.  The Novena will begin on Father’s Day. EUCHARISTIC REVIVAL OPENING MASS & PROCESSION: Can you represent St. Polycarp Parish? Sunday, June 19, 2022,  marks the Feast Day of Corpus Christi, whereon Catholics celebrate and honor the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. The Feast of Corpus Christi this year also starts the beginning of a three year National Eucharistic Revival for Catholics in the United States. Call or text Alice Gaston 302-670-7924 to sign up.  Each week a family will receive the Vocation Chalice at Mass and take it home with the promise to “pray for vocations” during that week.  The family should place the chalice in a prominent place in their home and gather together each day to pray for the awareness of vocations.  At the end of the week, the family will bring the chalice back to church so the next family can take it home.  A booklet will accompany the chalice that has prayers and instructions.  We need your prayers and for you to sign up.

MARRIAGE MOMENTS: What sacrifice has your marriage called you to make for your beloved, i.e., moving, putting your career on hold, changing an annoying habit? How can you die (just a little) to your own needs today to give life to your spouse or children? Do it generously, not begrudgingly.

PARENTING POINTERS: Hopefully your family says a blessing before eating. “Communion” happens not only in Church but when you eat together. Try saying something kind to the “communion of saints” sitting at your table this weekend.

Parishioners celebrated the gift of the Holy Spirit by wearing redon Pentecost!

Dear People of God,

I hope and pray that all is well with you and your loved ones as we complete the Easter Season!

This annual cyclical celebration of the Paschal Mystery reminds us that passion, death, and resurrection are but one event in the wisdom of God. This is an enigma that we often don’t understand, especially when we are beginning the journey. It is only with the unfolding of time that we understand how God is working in the situation. Because we know the outcome of the Paschal Mystery in Jesus Christ, we trust in that same reality in our lives.

Recently, we as a parish have been thrust into the Paschal Mystery by the wisdom of God. Lisa Titus, our Business Manager, has discerned that God is calling her to serve the Church in a larger way. She will be transitioning to a role that serves exclusively non-profit organizations and corporations. Just as she has been a blessing to St. Polycarp over the last six and a half years, she will now use her fiscal talents to be a gift from God to countless folks in various ministerial settings. Certainly, we are grateful for her stewardship and wish her the best in her ongoing journey of faith.

While her departure is a loss to our staff, we know that God is at work and trust in the fullness of the Paschal Mystery. God will touch the heart of who He wants to be our new Business Manager. Yet, God also needs us to do our part in spreading the good news. Please pray about this and openly invite folks to consider applying for the position. God needs us to ask for His plan to unfold.

My thirty-five years of Shepherding God’s flocks has taught me that God always brings to completion the Paschal Mystery. New life always follows suffering and death. In hope filled trust, we must pray for this reality to once again occur in our midst. Thank you for your active role in being God’s instruments in inviting our next Business Manager to apply.

May God continue to bless us and guide us as His faithful people.

SHOW YOUR SPIRIT!  WEAR RED! THIS WEEKEND – PENTECOST, SATURDAY, JUNE  / SUNDAY, JUNE 5.
On Pentecost Sunday, we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit. Flames of the Holy Spirit rested upon each Apostle and they received the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Plan on wearing RED to Mass this weekend, June 4^th & 5th!

THE VOCATION CHALICE MINISTRY: Saturday, June 4 at the 4 pm Mass – Tracie Bruno – Please arrive 15 minutes before your mass time and pick up materials in the sacristy.

APOSTLES’ CREED: We continue praying the Apostles’ Creed instead of the Nicene Creed. We will return to praying the Nicene Creed next weekend.

DIOCESAN PRIESTS’ RETIREMENT FUND: This weekend, June 4 and 5, all Catholic churches in Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern Shore will conduct a special collection to benefit the Diocesan Priests’ Retirement Fund. As more and more of our priests retire from active parish ministry, there is a growing need to supplement this fund. Your generosity and prayers for our aging priests are greatly appreciated.

CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF WILMINGTON – 2022 FAITH AND CHARITY CATHOLIC APPEAL:  As of the last report, 79.03% of our goal has been pledged. EUCHARISTIC REVIVAL OPENING MASS & PROCESSION: Sunday, June 19, 2022, (in two weeks) marks the Feast Day of Corpus Christi, whereon Catholics celebrate and honor the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. The Feast of Corpus Christi this year also starts the beginning of a three year National Eucharistic Revival for Catholics in the United States. To celebrate this momentous occasion, on Sunday, June 19 at 2:00 p.m. the Diocesan Opening Mass for the Eucharistic Revival will be celebrated at the Cathedral of St. Peter (500 N West Street, Wilmington, DE) by Bishop Koenig followed by a procession with the Holy Eucharist through the streets of Wilmington beginning at 3:00 p.m.

All are invited by Bishop Koenig to join the Corpus Christi Mass and Eucharistic Procession for this special day of devotion and prayer in the City of Wilmington. Note well, the Procession will be about 1.5 miles in warm weather with stops at St. Patrick and St. Joseph Churches along the way, please plan accordingly.

As this marks the beginning of the Diocesan Year of the Eucharistic Revival in the Diocese of Wilmington, all parishes are asked to send at least five representatives to participate in this special Mass and Procession. If you would like to represent our parish, please sign your name on the registration form at all church doors or contact the parish office. We would like to have as many as possible represent St. Polycarp.

NEXT WEEKEND, JUNE 11/12

SUPPORT OUR SQUIRES NEXT WEEKEND: Once again this year, the Squire’s are conducting a “Lock In” as a Circle. On June 17th and 18^th the Squire’s will be here at the Parish from Friday at 7pm until Saturday at 7pm. The Lock In will conclude with the 4pm Mass to celebrate and install our new officers for the Columbian year. Our Squire Circle will soon celebrate its 14^th year!!!
We are asking for your support by sponsoring the Squire’s in order to raise funds. Funds collected will be split up between St. Polycarp and the State Police K9 Unit. The Squires will be at the doors after both Masses next weekend, June 11th and 12^th, if you wish to donate. (Checks should be made payable to “St. Polycarp Squire Circle”)

BLESSINGS: The Blessing of Graduates takes place next weekend, June 11th and 12th, at both Masses.

FATHER’S DAY NOVENA: Honor the Fathers, Grandfathers, Uncles, Father-figures and other special men in your life on their special day.  Whether they are living or deceased, the gift of prayer is a beautiful way to show your deep appreciation for their sacrificial love.  The best gift you can give this loved one is the gift of the Mass.  Please use the Father’s Day Mass Remembrance envelopes to inscribe the names you wish to be remembered in the masses offered by our parish.  The Novena will begin on Father’s Day. Envelopes can be found at the church doors.

PSR REGISTRATION: Registration is now open for 2022-2023 religious education classes. We offer religious education classes for children in Pre-K through Grade 9, Sacramental Preparation for First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation.  We also offer Intermediate Sacramental Prep (ISP) for older children who have not yet received sacraments.

GLUTEN FREE? Do you have an intolerance to gluten? If so, our parish offers gluten-free wafers to be consecrated for you. Please see our Sacristan 10 – 15 minutes before Mass and let them know that you need a gluten-free wafer put in the pyx. At Communion, please process down the aisle to the priest who will have the pyx in his hand and let him know you need a gluten-free host

THE VOCATION CHALICE MINISTRY: Please sign up to take home the Vocation Chalice for one week. Call or text Alice Gaston 302-670-7924 to sign up.  Each week a family will receive the Vocation Chalice at Mass and take it home with the promise to “pray for vocations” during that week.  The family should place the chalice in a prominent place in their home and gather together each day to pray for the awareness of vocations.  At the end of the week, the family will bring the chalice back to church so the next family can take it home.  A booklet will accompany the chalice that has prayers and instructions.  We need your prayers and for you to sign up. 

CHANGE THE WORLD: BECOME CATHOLIC! If you know someone who is looking for a new beginning and wants to learn more about the Catholic Church, “personally invite” them to our RCIA sessions, Monday evenings at 6:30pm. The RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is for individuals who are unbaptized, baptized in other faith traditions or Catholic adults wishing to receive Confirmation and Holy Eucharist and seeking full membership in the Catholic Church. We are all called to share the “Good News” and you can make a difference by simply asking!
