SHOW YOUR SPIRIT! WEAR RED! THIS WEEKEND – PENTECOST, SATURDAY, JUNE / SUNDAY, JUNE 5.
On Pentecost Sunday, we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit. Flames of the Holy Spirit rested upon each Apostle and they received the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Plan on wearing RED to Mass this weekend, June 4th & 5th!
THE VOCATION CHALICE MINISTRY: Saturday, June 4 at the 4 pm Mass – Tracie Bruno – Please arrive 15 minutes before your mass time and pick up materials in the sacristy.

DIOCESAN PRIESTS’ RETIREMENT FUND: This weekend, June 4 and 5, all Catholic churches in Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern Shore will conduct a special collection to benefit the Diocesan Priests’ Retirement Fund. As more and more of our priests retire from active parish ministry, there is a growing need to supplement this fund. Your generosity and prayers for our aging priests are greatly appreciated.
AGAPE: We invite you to join us for Agape this Sunday June 5th in the Parish Hall following the 10:30am Mass. Come and enjoy an “Early Summer” BBQ!

Thank you to those who have already contributed to this year’s campaign and to those parishioners who have signed pledge cards.

Your generosity in supporting this campaign enables the diocese to do the work of our Lord.
When our parish collects its goal amount, a percentage of the excess will be returned to our parish to foster our charitable and ministerial work.
EUCHARISTIC REVIVAL OPENING MASS & PROCESSION: Sunday, June 19, 2022, (in two weeks) marks the Feast Day of Corpus Christi, whereon Catholics celebrate and honor the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. The Feast of Corpus Christi this year also starts the beginning of a three year National Eucharistic Revival for Catholics in the United States. For more information https://www.eucharisticrevival.org/
To celebrate this momentous occasion, on Sunday, June 19 at 2:00 p.m. the Diocesan Opening Mass for the Eucharistic Revival will be celebrated at the Cathedral of St. Peter (500 N West Street, Wilmington, DE) by Bishop Koenig followed by a procession with the Holy Eucharist through the streets of Wilmington beginning at 3:00 p.m.
All are invited by Bishop Koenig to join the Corpus Christi Mass and Eucharistic Procession for this special day of devotion and prayer in the City of Wilmington. Note well, the Procession will be about 1.5 miles in warm weather with stops at St. Patrick and St. Joseph Churches along the way, please plan accordingly.
As this marks the beginning of the Diocesan Year of the Eucharistic Revival in the Diocese of Wilmington, all parishes are asked to send at least five representatives to participate in this special Mass and Procession. If you would like to represent our parish, please sign your name on the registration form at all church doors or contact the parish office. We would like to have as many as possible represent St. Polycarp.

MARRIAGE MOMENTS: Spouses often say to each other – “If you love me, you would…” Don’t turn your love into a bargain. Give it freely to each other and keep your word.
PARENTING POINTERS: Church is a holy place but so are our homes and the people we live with. Consider how Jesus may come, stand, sit, and play with us as we spend time together today. Peace & love often sound like clichés. Help it to come alive with your children this weekend.
LET US PRAY:
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful.
And kindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created.
And you will renew the face of the earth.
Amen.

MARRIAGE MOMENTS: Natural or national disasters can bring out the best in humanity as we rally to help those in need. A marriage crisis can also prompt a couple to sacrifice for each other or honestly deal with a recurring problem. Don’t wait for a disaster, however, to test your love. Prevention is better.
PARENTING POINTERS: Talk to your child about lifting up their spirit to God – in prayer, by doing a favor for someone… Maybe fly a kite or watch some birds together to connect with Jesus’ Ascension.
LET US PRAY: May 21 – Armed Forces Day
Lord God, Almighty Father,
creator of mankind and author of peace,
as we are ever mindful of the cost paid for the liberty we possess,
we ask you to bless the members of our armed forces.
Give them courage, hope and strength.
May they ever experience your firm support, gentle love and compassionate healing.
Be their power and protector, leading them from darkness to light.
To you be all glory, honor and praise, now and forever. Amen.

THE WEEK OF MAY 8
CONNECTED IN CHRIST – ADULT FAITH FORMATION: 8-WEEK VIDEO SERIES (2nd week – this Tuesday)
Many Catholics want to read the Bible because they know it is God’s Word, but they give up because it seems so complicated. In only eight video presentations, Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible will give you the “big picture” by showing how fourteen narrative books of the Bible tell the complete story from Adam and Eve to Christ and the Church. Discover the story of salvation history and understand how you fit into God’s plan. Join Connected in Christ on Tuesdays from 9:15 to 11:00 am in the Library to watch this series with friends. If you can’t attend in person, it is still possible to watch the videos online each week. Contact Peggy peggyo52@aol.com to register or for more information about how to share in this experience.
EUCHARISTIC ADORATION: ATTENTION – This coming Tuesday (for this week only), Adoration will begin at 1pm instead of noon. (May 17th 1:00 pm – 8:00 pm in Church )
UPCOMING/ONGOING
THE VOCATION CHALICE MINISTRY: Please sign up to take home the Vocation Chalice for one week. Call or text Alice Gaston 302-670-7924 to sign up. Each week a family will receive the Vocation Chalice at Mass and take it home with the promise to “pray for vocations” during that week. The family should place the chalice in a prominent place in their home and gather together each day to pray for the awareness of vocations. At the end of the week, the family will bring the chalice back to church so the next family can take it home. A booklet will accompany the chalice that has prayers and instructions. We need your prayers and for you to sign up. See the Bulletin for schedule. May 22 – K. Watts, June 4 – T. Bruno.

MARRIAGE MOMENTS: Remember that Jesus’ love for humanity brought him to the crucifixion. Ponder what each of you might sacrifice for the other this week.
PARENTING POINTERS: Say a genuine, unexpected “I love you.” Tell each one something they do that makes you proud. Recognize something that each one is good at.
LET US PRAY:
A Prayer for Seminarians
O Jesus, Eternal High Priest,
I offer You through Your Immaculate Mother Mary,
Your Own Precious Blood, in all the Masses throughout the world,
as petition for graces for all seminarians, Your future priests.
Give them humility, meekness, prudence, and a burning zeal for souls.
Fill their hearts with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Teach them to know and love the Church, that they may always and everywhere
speak, act, and think with her, the glorious spouse of Christ.
Teach them generosity and detachment from worldly goods; but above all,
teach them to know You and to love the One and Only Eternal Priest.
Good Shepherd of Souls, hear this my prayer for saintly priests.
Amen.
