SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: OCTOBER 5^th– NO SATURDAY EVENING MASS. There will be no Saturday evening Mass on Saturday, October 5^th, 2024. Bishop Koenig has asked that all Saturday evening Masses in the Diocese be cancelled that day so that Priests and parishioners can attend the Eucharistic Congress in Ocean City, MD. This does not lift the obligation to attend Mass that weekend. It encourages everyone to attend the Eucharistic Congress and takes into account that Priests throughout the Diocese will also be attending.

FAITH AND CHARITY APPEAL – One Body, One Spirit in Christ: Congratulations! We now have $66,555.52 in pledges from 190 donors. Of that, $55,271.83 has been collected. Keep up the good work folks! It is important that everyone follows through with payments on pledges. Once we reach our goal in collected donations, we will receive back half of the money collected above the goal for projects around our campus. It’s not too late to participate! If your household has not participated, we encourage you to prayerfully consider participating in this annual event. Every gift counts, no matter how small. ANNUAL PARISH PICNIC – THIS SUNDAY – RAIN OR SHINE!
Please join us this Sunday as we gather for our Annual Parish Picnic! All donated food items for the picnic should be ready to serve and brought to the church in disposable containers only. Do not drop off any food on Saturday, as the kitchen will be closed. Bring your food on Sunday only, before or after Mass. We are looking forward to gathering with you for Fellowship, Food, and Fun!

TOMORROW – Even the unborn are Children of God and deserve to be remembered. Please join Erica Taylor for the National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children this Saturday, September 14^th, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. We will meet at Holy Cross’s Cemetery in front of the Memorial for the Unborn.

SECOND COLLECTION this weekend is for our Parish School of Religion. Your generosity assists in our Parish providing the best possible religious education for our Parish children.

BLESSING – CATECHETICAL SUNDAY: Our PSR Faculty and all those in our parish involved in Faith Formation will receive a special blessing at the 10:30 am Mass this Sunday. The theme for this year’s Catechetical Sunday is “Lord, when did we see you hungry?” This verse from the Bible emphasizes the importance of compassion and kindness towards others. Many people in our community struggle to put food on their tables. Let’s do our part and help feed those who are hungry! Our willingness to serve others shows God our willingness to serve Him. We will be collecting non-perishable food items at the picnic this Sunday, September 15^th. You’ll find us along the tree line (near the dumpsters) where our catechists and assistants will be holding a Meet & Greet for their students in PSR.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD will be offered this Sunday, September 15^th during the 10:30am Mass. All children ages PreK-4^th grade are welcome to join us. CLoW is a worship experience geared especially for their age level. This opportunity allows children to hear Scripture in words they understand and to share their own understanding of God’s Word. Children will be called to come forward before the First Reading. They will return to you after the General Intercessions. All catechists and assistants have a cleared background check. If you are interested in helping with this ministry, please contact Erica Taylor at 302-653-4101. Children’s Liturgy of the Word takes place on the 1^st and 3^rd Sunday Sunday of the month.

ALTAR SERVERS NEEDED: If your child has expressed a desire to serve Jesus and St. Polycarp Parish at the altar and if they have received the Sacrament of Holy Communion, please contact: Fran and Jim Walls. ANNUAL ENVELOPE FUNDRAISER: If you missed us last week, check out the display of envelopes at all the Church exits. Each envelope has a different dollar amount on it. Choose which envelope(s) you want to fill. Place the dollar amount marked on the front in the envelope & place it in the collection basket next week. You may also drop it off or mail it to the parish office. Please make checks payable to St. Polycarp Church (In the memo, clearly write Envelope Fundraiser). The beautiful artwork on the envelopes was done by our PSR students. If you choose to keep the envelope for a keepsake, feel free to place the dollar amount in a different envelope. “ETERNAL REST: THE ART OF DYING WELL” – An evening grief support group will begin on Thursday, October 24^th , at 7 pm in Classroom 8. In the weeks before the support group begins, a four-part series from FORMED, “Eternal Rest: The Art of Dying Well”, will be shown. “Eternal Rest” presents the Catholic Church’s teaching about death and God’s response to it with wisdom and truth, gentleness and compassion, helping us to think about and prepare for death in the light of Jesus Christ, the Author of life. All are welcome to attend any or all of the “Eternal Rest” video/discussion sessions, which will be held at 7 pm in Classroom 8 on four consecutive Thursdays–September 26^th, October 3^rd, 10^th, & 17^t^h. Although this series is separate from the group support group, inform ation about the upcoming group will be provided after each “Eternal Rest” presentation.

PRIESTHOOD SUNDAY will be celebrated the last weekend in September; Saturday, September 28^th, and Sunday, September 29^th. CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD: Children’s Liturgy of the Word is offered every 1^st and 3^rd Sunday of the month during the 10:30 am Mass. This is a wonderful opportunity for children in PreK-4^th grade. It mirrors the worship experience of the larger community in an engaging and interactive style. They will listen to Scripture and engage in discussions about what they have heard at their age level. Children will be called forward before the First Reading and will return to you after the General Intercessions. Our lead catechist is Anna Skinner. She, along with her assistants, have cleared background checks.

GLUTEN FREE? Do you have an intolerance to gluten? If so, our parish offers gluten-free wafers to be consecrated for you. Please see our Sacristan 10 – 15 minutes before Mass and let them know that you need a gluten-free wafer put in the pyx. At Communion, please proceed down the aisle to the priest who will have the pyx in his hand and let him know you need a gluten-free host.

THE SMYRNA/CLAYTON MINISTERIUM FOOD PANTRY is located downstairs at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 22 N. Union St., Smyrna. The pantry is open from 9:30 am to 10:30 am, Monday through Friday. Due to the increased need in the community, the Pantry is in great need of cereal, juice boxes or pouches, peanut butter & jelly, hamburger helper, tuna helper, canned tuna, sloppy joe sauce (Manwich), boxed spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, vegetable beef and chicken noodle soups, macaroni & cheese, and Chef Boyardee canned pastas. I open myself to that grace today and pray that You bestow it in superabundance. I also pray that I will have the courage and wisdom to embrace my crosses every day of my life, uniting them to Your Cross, and trusting that You will use these sacrifices as a means of the further bestowal of Your love on the world. FAITH AND CHARITY APPEAL – One Body, One Spirit in Christ: Congratulations! We now have $66,555.52 in pledges from 190 donors. Of that, $53,302.37 has been collected. Keep up the good work folks! SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: OCTOBER 5^th– NO SATURDAY EVENING MASS. There will be no Saturday evening Mass on Saturday, October 5^th, 2024. Bishop Koenig has asked that all Saturday evening Masses in the Diocese be cancelled that day so that Priests and parishioners can attend the Eucharistic Congress in Ocean City, MD. This does not lift the obligation to attend Mass that weekend. It encourages everyone to attend the Eucharistic Congress and takes into account that Priests throughout the Diocese will also be attending.

ANNUAL ENVELOPE FUNDRAISER: Check out the display of envelopes at all the Church exits. Each envelope has a different dollar amount on it. Choose which envelope(s) you want to fill. Place the dollar amount marked on the front in the envelope & place it in the collection basket next week. You may also drop it off or mail it to the parish office. Please make checks payable to St. Polycarp Church (In the memo, clearly write Envelope Fundraiser). The beautiful artwork on the envelopes was done by our PSR students. BLESSING – CATECHETICAL SUNDAY: Our PSR Faculty and all those in our parish involved in Faith Formation will receive a special blessing at the 10:30 am Mass next Sunday. The theme for this year’s Catechetical Sunday is “Lord, when did we see you hungry?” This verse from the Bible emphasizes the importance of compassion and kindness towards others. Many people in our community struggle to put food on their tables. Let’s do our part and help feed those who are hungry! Our willingness to serve others shows God our willingness to serve Him. We will be collecting non-perishable food items at the picnic on Sunday, September 15^th. You’ll find us along the tree line (near the dumpsters) where our catechists and assistants will be holding a Meet & Greet for their students in PSR.

ANNUAL PARISH PICNIC! NEXT WEEKEND!! Have you decided yet what side dish you will be bringing to our Annual Parish Picnic next Sunday, September 15, after the 10:30 am Mass? Your food should be pre-cooked and brought to the picnic in disposable containers. We can provide serving utensils. We will gather outside, behind the rectory, for Fellowship, Food, and Fun. Don’t forget to bring a chair to relax on. Tell the kids there’s a Bounce House, games, Face Painting by the Girl Scouts, and a visit from Spiderman. “ETERNAL REST: THE ART OF DYING WELL” – An evening grief support group will begin on Thursdays at 7 pm in late October in Classroom 8. In the weeks before the group starts, a series from FORMED, “Eternal Rest: The Art of Dying Well”, will be shown at 7 pm on four consecutive Thursdays: September 26^th and October 3^rd, 10^th, & 17^th. These videos will be shown in Classroom 8. All are welcome to attend. This series is separate from the group support group. “Eternal Rest” presents the Catholic Church’s teaching about death and God’s response to it with wisdom and truth, gentleness and compassion, so we can think about and prepare for death in the light of Jesus Christ, the Author of life. Each week, after the “Eternal Rest” video and discussion, information will be given about the upcoming grief support group.

The Share The Harvest table is now under the Portico. This allows our parishioners to share their abundant yield from their gardens with their Church family. All are welcome to share and receive.
