POLYCARP’S 2ND ANNUAL STEAK DINNER AND GOLF TOURNAMENT. After Masses this weekend, there will be a chance for everyone to sign the Parishioners’ Support Signs for the 2^nd Annual St. Polycarp Steak Dinner and Golf Event.  The signs will be displayed on the Golf Course and then at the dinner at Maple Dale Country Club on Sunday, September 12^th.  For a $5.00 donation you can put your names or a few words on one of these signs to show your support for this event and our parish.  Members  of the Golf Committee will be outside the church doors ready to assist you.

PRAYER WALK – This Sunday, August 29 at 6pm. Please join us for our annual Prayer Walk. St. Polycarp Church, along with other churches and schools in our community will gather at their respective locations to pray together for the safety and well-being of everyone returning to school. Our prayers are needed! We will begin with prayer together as a group at 6:00pm in front of the church and then walk around the building together in silent prayer. For those who don’t feel comfortable walking, you may go inside the Church. The church will be open from 6-7pm. In the event of rain, we will meet in the Church at 6pm. Please consider joining our Parish Family & the community of Smyrna in prayer.

FIRST FRIDAY: Join us next Friday, September 3rd, to pray the Rosary before Mass, Mass at 8:30 am, followed by Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and the Sacred Heart Novena.

BACK-UP LITURGICAL MINISTRY SCHEDULER: The Liturgy Committee is in need of back-up personnel for their various ministries.  They need someone to fill-in for Frank Patton who schedules the Liturgical Ministers for the various Masses. The back-up would fill in if Frank were to get sick, etc.  Frank is willing to teach that person how he does the scheduling. SEASONS OF HOPE bereavement support group is centered on Jesus Christ and grounded in his healing wisdom, traditions, and practices of our faith.  “Seasons of Hope” gives the bereaved an opportunity to come together to share god’s love.  It provides a safe place to share thoughts and feelings.  It also offers the knowledge that others are on the same grief journey and mutual support is given to each other. “Seasons of Hope” consists of 6 week sessions.  Our next session begins on Thursday, September 16^th, at 10:00 am.  For more information and to register contact Diane Dellinger at ddellinger7377@outlook.com or Maureen Robinson (302) 423 – 6366.  Registration is required.

SECOND COLLECTION THIS WEEK is for the Cathedral of St. Peter in Wilmington, DE. The Cathedral of Saint Peter, is the Bishop’s own parish and the center of Catholicism in our diocese.  It was built over 200 years ago – 50 years before the founding of the Diocese of Wilmington, and continues with a small but dedicated parish community and school.   At the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, the diocese began livestreaming Sunday Mass from our Cathedral.  That effort continues today.  In 2015, the bishop, with the support of the priests of the diocese, instituted an annual special collection to support the maintenance and ministry of our Cathedral.  The collection is being held this weekend throughout the Diocese. PSR NEEDS YOUR HELP
As you can imagine, our preparations for PSR are kicking into high gear. Unfortunately, it’s difficult moving forward when a few positions still need to be filled. Please consider saying “YES”!! We would love to have you on our team! 7^th grade needs a catechist on Tuesday evening & a Greeter/Hall Monitor is needed for Sunday morning and Tuesday evening. Contact Erica Taylor at (302) 653-4101 or dre@saintpolycarp.org for more information. This may be just what you need!!

Our PSR supply drive is now underway. Please consider helping by purchasing an item or two from our catechists wish list. All items can be dropped off Monday-Friday at the parish office between 9 a.m. & 3 p.m., in the red bin under the black drop box (anytime), or after both weekend Masses in the marked bins under the coat racks near the bathrooms, across from the hall. Supplies needed include: Gallon size zip-lock bags, Plastic Pencil / Supply Boxes (approx. 8” x 5” x 2”), Plastic Folders with pockets, Kid Scissors, Card Stock (white and color), White Poster Board (11 x 14), Paper Towels, Crayola Crayons (8ct. and 24ct.), Boxed Tissues, Monetary Donations towards the purchase of a Smart TV, Gift Cards (Walmart, Target, and Staples)

AGAPE SUNDAY! Come join your fellow parishioners this Sunday, August 1st after the 10:30am Mass for Agape, a celebration of God’s Love for his people, and enjoy a light brunch and fellowship.

LET THE LITTTLE ONES COME TO ME! Our “Cry Room” is available once again for those times when you just need it!

FOOD PANTRY: We will once again be collecting for the local food pantry. The Smyrna – Clayton Food Pantry is in need of small juices, boxes of dry cereal, small jars of peanut butter, canned fruits and canned soups. The pantry is asking that canned items have the pop top lids (homeless people may not have can-openers). Coupons (no need to clip) are also needed. The tubs for your food donations are in the hallway outside of the Mother Drexel Hall.  Please no expired food.

FIRST FRIDAY: Join us next Friday to pray the Rosary before Mass, Mass at 8:30 am followed by Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and the Sacred Heart Novena.

FIRST SATURDAY: Next Saturday, August 7th. The Columbiettes and Sodality ministries have been asked to alternately lead the praying of the rosary every 1^st Saturday.  Please plan to join Sodality on August 7^th at 3:40 pm, before the start of the 4pm Mass.
