Weekend Update March 29/30

4th SUNDAY OF LENT
LAETARE SUNDAY

The Fourth Sunday of Lent is known as Laetare Sunday.  The Lenten Season is more than half over. The celebration of the Easter Feast is drawing near –
the Church rejoices! Rose vestments are worn by the Priest. This rose color reminds us of joy in the midst of penance and anticipation.

SUNDAY SCRIPTURE – QUESTIONS TO PONDER

~ During this Lent, how are you being called to take on the ministry of reconciliation?
~ Have you ever forgiven someone more generously than others might have expected?
~ Has someone surprised you by forgiving you without reservation?

AT ST. DENNIS, FRIDAY, MARCH 28th: Looking for something special to do for Lent? Join us for a Sacred Heart Holy Hour at St Dennis Church on March 28th starting at 6 PM,  Following the 5 pm Stations of the Cross. Sacred Heart Icon Tour: Through the Pilgrim Icon Program, councils organize a Sacred Heart Holy Hour featuring an icon depicting the most famous image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, painted in 1767 by Pompeo Batoni and now venerated in the Church of the Gesù in Rome. The reproduction bears the blessing of Pope Francis, through the Papal Almoner, and is one of more than 300 icons traveling across the world, from council to council, for veneration and use in prayer services. The Sacred Heart Holy Hour includes readings from Sacred Scripture and reflections from Pope Francis on the Sacred Heart, as well as the Divine Mercy Chaplet, prayers to the Sacred Heart and time for silent prayer. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament may also be included. Following the holy hour, families are encouraged to enthrone the Sacred Heart in their homes by placing an image of the Sacred Heart in a place of honor and conducting an enthronement ceremony. Since the first traveling pilgrim icon of Our Lady of Guadalupe in 1979, more than 191,000 council and parish prayer services with some 23 million participants have been held.

TECHNOLOGY WHIZ KID HEADED FOR SAINTHOOD – APRIL 27, 2025 – FIRST MILLENNIAL SAINT: The red polo shirt. The backpack. The computer. That’s how most people picture Blessed Carlo Acutis—a technology whiz kid who harnessed the power of the internet to show people the truth of the Real Presence and bring them closer to God. But that’s just one part of the storyBlessed Carlo’s radical love for the Eucharist drove everything he did. Friends spent hours on the phone with him, captivated by his joy. People returned to the sacraments because of his witness. And when he met someone in need, he didn’t just offer food—he sat with them, listened, and shared what he had. His faith wasn’t just a private devotion—it changed lives. It’s still changing lives today.  Let his life inspire yours. Watch the trailer for The Boy from Milan and encounter the profoundly compassionate heart of Blessed Carlo Acutis. Hear stories from those closest to him as they share how an ordinary boy’s extraordinary love drew hearts to God.       https://formed.org/the-boy-from-milan#trailer

CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD:
Children’s Liturgy of the Word is offered every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month during the 10:30 am Mass. This is a wonderful opportunity for children in PreK-4th grade. It mirrors the worship experience of the larger community in an engaging and interactive style. They will listen to Scripture and engage in discussions about what they have heard at their age level. Children will be called forward before the First Reading and will return to you after the General Intercessions. Our lead catechist is Anna Skinner. She, along with her assistants, have cleared background checks.

THE FACILITIES PLANNING COMMITTEE meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm in the hall.  We are looking for parishioners with backgrounds in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting and other construction expertise needed for our project.  If God has blessed you with a gift you can share, please contact John Irwin, Executive Officer of Facilities Planning at 740-317-3617.

GLUTEN FREE? Do you have an intolerance to gluten? If so, our parish offers gluten-free wafers to be consecrated for you. Please see our Sacristan 10 – 15 minutes before Mass and let them know that you need a gluten-free wafer put in the pyx. At Communion, please proceed down the aisle to the priest who will have the pyx in his hand and let him know you need a gluten-free host.

IS THAT YOU, FR. JIM? If you receive emails or texts from Fr. Jim asking for favors, gift cards or gifts or stating something similar to “I am currently busy in a meeting now, no calls so just reply to my email”, please ignore and delete. If an email looks suspicious and you’re not sure, give the office a call.

DO YOU KNOW YOUR FAITH? What is the Annunciation of the Lord?
ANSWER:
The Annunciation of the Lord highlights Mary’s “Yes” to the message and her acceptance of the message given to her by the Archangel Gabriel that she will bear a son.  “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High,* and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” Luke 1:26-38 https://bible.usccb.org/bible/luke/1

Mary agreed to cooperate with God’s plan even if she did not fully understand how she, without having any relations with a man could have a child.  The answer is Trust God!  Mary is the model of the woman who said yes to God.  She cooperated with God’s plan even if she did not understand it. Do you trust God?
