JOYFUL NEWS! Bishop Malooly, has lifted the dispensation, thereby reinstating the Sunday and Holy Day Mass obligation for Catholics in the Diocese of Wilmington, effective June 26, 2021. The obligation does not apply to those who are ill, have been exposed to the virus, or have any serious underlying health conditions. We welcome and encourage the Faithful to return to full in-person participation of the Sunday Eucharist, the source and summit of our Catholic faith.

R.C.I.A. – CHANGE THE WORLD: Do you know someone who is interested in becoming Catholic? Are you an adult who has never made First Eucharist or been Confirmed? Deacon Frank will hold an Inquiry Session on July 12th for those adults who have not been baptized, who were baptized in another Christian tradition who desire to become Catholic or for those adults baptized Catholic in need of First Communion and/or Confirmation. St. Polycarp’s ongoing example of stewardship has been the epitome of generosity in years past. Pledge cards are available at the doors of the Church and in the black drop box under the portico. We need your help to reach this year’s target goal!

STONES FAITH GARDEN: We welcome all those who contributed a stone to explain its meaning by submitting a line or two, a paragraph or two, about your stone. We will  publish these lessons on our various platforms. (You may remain anonymous.) Submissions should be sent to   submission@saintpolycarp.org. This will allow all in our community to grow in understanding the power and grace of the Holy Spirit active in our midst.

UPDATED COVID-19 GUIDANCE: Reservations are no longer required. Under guidance by the Diocese and the CDC, vaccinated persons are not required to wear masks. Non-vaccinated persons are required to wear masks. Please sanitize your hands as you enter Church.  There will be a section reserved for those who would like to be seated using the 6 foot distancing. Masks are required in that section.) If you would like to be seated in this area, please let the usher know when you enter.  The Sign of Peace will be reinstated without physical contact between non-family members. Communion will be distributed with two lines approaching the altar. Bathrooms are available. At this time, the cry room is unavailable. After the final hymn has ended, please sanitize your area. We would appreciate donations of sanitizing wipes. There will be a basket in the vestibule and a red bin under the portico to collect your donations of wipes.  Thank you.

Meetings: As we travel through the re-opening, each group/ministry must discern their own path with regard to in person/hybrid meetings taking into account diocesan and CDC guidelines. All groups/ministries will need to submit a Room Reservation Form to Teresa at office@saintpolycarp.org prior to resuming meetings on campus.

Morgan has the ability to stream from her laptop at Mass or to work remotely.  We would like to have another person to share this responsibility. Missals:  A limited number of Missals have been placed in the pews for use when you are here. We ask that you do not take them home. If you have been bringing your Breaking Bread Missal with you during Covid, please continue to bring it with you weekly to Mass.  

The dispensation of the obligation to attend Sunday Mass and Holy Days of Obligation issued March 12, 2020 remains in effect for the Diocese of Wilmington.

WEAR RED TO MASS THIS WEEKEND: Whether you’re at home or in Church, wear red this weekend, May 22nd and May 23rd, in celebration of Pentecost Sunday. COME HOLY SPIRIT! Show us your Spirit by wearing red!

COVID-19 GUIDANCE: Late yesterday, we received new guidelines from the Diocese. Our Liturgy Committee will be meeting to work with the new guidelines. By next weekend, Memorial Day Weekend, we anticipate having plans in place. Please be patient as we move forward in the implementation of these guidelines.  Beginning next week, we will no longer be taking reservations.

BISHOP MALOOLY TO ORDAIN MICHAEL A. PRESTON TO THE PRIESTHOOD ON MAY 22ND  The Most Reverend W. Francis Malooly, Apostolic Administrator of the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington, will ordain Rev. Mr. Michael Anthony Preston to the Priesthood on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Wilmington, Delaware. Rev. Mr. Preston was ordained to the Transitional Diaconate last August. Due to COVID-19 safety protocols, attendance at the May 22nd Mass of Ordination is by invitation only. The ceremony will be live-streamed on the Diocese of Wilmington’s YouTube channel – www.YouTube.com/DioceseofWilm.

ORDINATION: Please pray for Brennan Ferris, a seminarian studying for the priesthood for the Diocese of Wilmington, who will be ordained to the transitional diaconate on May 15 at 11 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Wilmington. It will be livestreamed on the Diocese of Wilmington’s YouTube channel.

SHOE DRIVE: Girl Scout Troop 547 is conducting a shoe drive fundraiser from May 10 through June 25. Due to social distancing guidelines, both of our weekend Masses for this coming Sunday, Palm Sunday, have reached capacity.   10am Easter Sunday Mass, has also reached capacity. At this time, reservations are still available for Holy Thursday, Good Friday (at St. Dennis), the Easter Vigil – Saturday, 7:30 pm and Easter Sunday at 8 am. See below for reservation information.

RESERVATIONS for the TRIDUUM:
Reservations for Holy Thursday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday Masses at St. Polycarp were accepted by phone this past Wednesday. Reservations can not be made by calling at other times, leaving messages or by emailing staff.

FASTING and ABSTINENCE: Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence.  Good Friday is an obligatory day of fasting and abstinence for Catholics.  The norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59.  When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal.  The norms concerning abstinence from meat are binding upon members of the Roman Catholic Church from age 14 onwards.                          ~USCCB

RETURNING TO MASS FOR THE FIRST TIME DUE TO THE PANDEMIC? WELCOME BACK! VISITING? WELCOME! We’re glad you’re here. In a continuing effort to keep everyone safe, we observe limited capacity using social distancing guidelines at all times. Reservations are required. You must wear a face mask or covering that covers the mouth and nose at all times.  Restrooms will not be available. At Communion, you will remain in your pew and the Eucharist will be brought to you.
The Breaking Bread Missalettes are not available in the pews, but are available at the doors of the Church. Please take one, place your name in it, and bring it back and forth with you to Mass. Please do not leave it in the pew after Mass! This is one more thing our parish is doing to help keep everyone safe!  If you would like to give a donation to help defray the cost of the Breaking Bread Hymnal, please enclose your donation in an envelope and mark it Breaking Bread Donation.  Thank you!
