THIS WEEKEND, AUGUST 6/7 (& week of August 7)

Come join us for Agape this Sunday August 7th following the 10:30 am Mass. Our Parish & Family Life Ministry will be hosting a “Summer Picnic” lunch, delicious deserts, and beverages.  This is a wonderful time to meet members from Parish & Family!

LOST AND FOUND: Our “LOST AND FOUND” is located on top of the file cabinet (across from the restrooms in the hallway near the Mother Drexel Hall). Maybe something of yours is in there. Take a look! Items remaining after August 6th will be donated to those in need.

CHANGE THE WORLD: BECOME CATHOLIC! INQUIRY SESSIONS will take place on August 8, August 29, September 12.  Is there someone you would like to invite to explore the Catholic faith— someone unbaptized, or baptized in a non-Catholic Christian tradition? Do you know someone who needs Confirmation and/or First Eucharist? Perhaps, the Catholic faith can fulfill their desires for a closer relationship with Our Lord. Then, the RCIA process is for them. Please invite them to one or all of our Inquiry Sessions that will take place on August 8; August 29 & September 12, 2022. Sessions take place in the Parish Library at 6:30 pm. Please contact Deacon Frank Weber for more information or to let him know that you will attend a session(s) You can reach him at DeaconFrank@saintpolycarp.org or leave a message with the Parish office at
(302) 653-8279.

We’re looking for photographers (any level) to take digital pictures at the dedication of the the Giving, Growing and Glorifying Landscaping Project  on Saturday, August 20th, following the 4 pm Mass. Please contact Kathy Curlett at kathleencurlett19@gmail.com if you can share your time and talent with us for this special dedication on the 20th.

(& week of August 14)

SECOND COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND – THE CATHEDRAL OF SAINT PETER:  This annual collection supports the maintenance and ministry of the Bishop’s own parish and the center of Catholicism in our diocese. It was built over 200 years ago – 50 years before the founding of the Diocese of Wilmington. In 2015, Bishop Malooly, with the support of the priests of the diocese, instituted an annual special collection to support the maintenance and ministry of our Cathedral. This year, the collection will be held on August 13 & 14. More information is available at cathedralofstpeter.com… and at www.cdow.org/cathedral. Thank you for your generosity.

THE VOCATION CHALICE MINISTRY: Sunday, August 14 at the 10:30 am Mass – Powell Family Please arrive 15 minutes before your mass time and pick up materials in the sacristy.

CHEER ON THE GOLFERS! If you can’t come to St. Polycarp’s 3rd Annual Golf Tournament, how about sending the golfers your cheers? Donation is $5 per square. Add your own personal wish. Boards will be outside the Church on August 13th and 14th. Bring your $5. Looking forward to seeing you on August 13th or 14th.

THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY (August 15) celebrates Mary’s assumption, body and soul, into heaven.  Mass will be celebrated on Sunday, August 14th at 4:00 pm. (This Mass is for the Assumption and does not fulfill the obligation to attend the weekend Saturday, 4 pm /Sunday10:30 am Mass.) The Assumption of Mary is a Holy Day, but this year the obligation to attend Mass is lifted because it falls on a Monday.

We recently used the platform, Formed, to listen to “The Holy Spirit – Third Person of the Trinity” Fr. Shannon Collins. We heard that when God wants to touch someone, He sends His Holy Spirit. One take away was to reflect on times when the Holy Spirit touched our lives.
Please join us as we begin a study on the Holy Spirit entitled “The Wild Goose” by Fr. Dave Pilonka, TOR on Tuesday, August 16 at 9:15 am in the library. There are fourteen sessions. Even if you cannot be present for all, you can see any missed session on Formed. The Holy Spirit will lead us to a place of mercy, healing, peace, and presence…a Person that will lead us to the Heart of God. For more information, please contact Cookie Ruane 302-540-6429.

Prayer to St. Lawrence, Deacon and Martyr – Feast Day, August 10

O Generous patron of the Church’s poor, St. Lawrence, pray to the One God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit that all the poor of the Church in need in every corner of the world may feel the effect of the love of their brothers and sisters who seek to help them.

Deliver the Church from the greed and envy of the powerful and protect her rights and property so that she may serve the needy in freedom, giving them good things for soul and body.

May we come some day with all those whom we helped on earth to the bright mansions of heaven where we will enjoy the riches of God’s house and the company of the Savior who lives and reigns forever and ever.
