CHRISTIANS OF THE HOLY LAND – OLIVE WOOD: CANCELLED. .Our representative from the Holy Land has had to cancel his upcoming visit for November 18th and 19th.  Please continue to pray for peace in the Holy Land.  We will try to reschedule the visit in 2024.  Thank you for your understanding

THIS WEEKEND’S SECOND COLLECTION is for the St. Vincent De Paul Society.

SATURDAY EUCHARISTIC ADORATION will take place this Saturday, November 11th, at the end of the 4 pm Mass. Following the prayer after Communion, Fr. Jim will place the Blessed Sacrament (Host) in the Monstrance.  Silent prayer then continues until 6.  When you leave, please do so quietly as others are praying to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. .One of the most foundational things you can do in regards to Eucharistic Adoration is to “be there.” There are no specific rules about what you should do during Eucharistic Adoration. Just “be there” in Jesus’ presence. Reflect on His goodness and adore Him for all He has done for you and humankind. That would be a time of Eucharistic Adoration well-spent.

FROM FR. LENTINI, Dean – Silver Lake Deanery

Dear Parishioners of St. Polycarp Parish,

The Silver Lake Deanery is Church’s administrative territory covering the areas overseen by St. Dennis (Galena), St. Polycarp (Smyrna), Holy Cross (Dover), Immaculate Conception (Marydel), and St. John the Apostle (Milford/Harrington).  As part of the Diocesan Planning process, the various Deaneries of the Diocese of Wilmington, are seeking ways in which Parishes within a Deanery can more effectively work together to provide services to the faithful (and, conversely, identifying those areas where that is not practical).

To that end, as Dean of the Silver Lake Deanery, I have compiled a survey to get parishioner assessment regarding areas/topics that have been reviewed by our Deanery Committee or by the Diocesan Pastoral Planning process.  The survey is fairly simple, and should take only a few minutes to complete.

I would like to compile the results of this survey to present to our Bishop and the steering committee of this Pastoral Planning process by early December.  Thus, I would set the deadline for submissions to this survey at Tuesday, November 28th, 2023.

The survey itself is housed at the Immaculate Conception website, which provides a simple link for all to use:  www.iccmarydel.org/survey — that survey will be officially open from this coming weekend thru Tuesday November 28th..

On behalf of my brother priests in the Silver Lake Deanery, I thank you for your faithfulness and your participation.  I remain,

Yours in Christ,
Vy, Rev. James Lentini, VF
Dean – Silver Lake Deanery

.WE NEED YOUR HELP!

NEEDED – NEW MINISTRY SCHEDULER: We are currently looking for someone to take over the scheduling of our ministers for the Weekend Masses and Holy Days of Obligation. This person must have good PC organization and computer skills. If you think you might be interested in this position, please call Frank Patton at  (302) 508-5268.

SACRISTAN NEEDED: We are still in need of someone to step forward to serve as sacristan.  Sacristans have the duty to arrive early to the Church in order to unlock the doors and prepare the Church for Mass.  Becoming a sacristan would be a great way to learn more about our beautiful liturgy and become more involved in carrying it out.  No previous knowledge is required. If you are interested, please contact the head sacristan Adam Bauer at ajpd.bauer@gmail.com.

DIRECTORY COORDINATOR: The Pastoral Council is looking for a parishioner to coordinate the preparation for a new directory for Saint Polycarp. Our last directory was published in 2018 and we understand there may be an interest in producing a new directory.  Please contact Kathy Curlett at (302) 222 – 9326 if you are interested.

They will listen to Scripture and engage in discussions about what they have heard at their age level. Children will be called forward before the First Reading and will return to you after the General Intercessions. Our lead catechist is Anna Skinner. She, along with her assistants, have cleared background checks.

At Communion, please proceed down the aisle to the priest who will have the pyx in his hand and let him know you need a gluten-free host.

LET US PRAY:   A Veterans Day Prayer

Dear Lord,
Today we honor our veterans,
worthy men and women
who gave their best
when they were called upon
to serve and protect their country.
We pray that you will bless them, Lord,
for their unselfish service
in the continual struggle
to preserve our freedoms, our safety,
and our country’s heritage, for all of us.
Bless them abundantly
for the hardships they faced,
for the sacrifices they made
for their many different contributions
to America’s victories
over tyranny and oppression.
We respect them, we thank them,
we honor them, we are proud of them,
and we pray that you will watch over
these special people
and bless them with peace and happiness.
In Jesus’ name we pray; Amen.
